THUNDERBOLTS WAY SLOPE STABILISATION  Finn Valley

THUNDERBOLTS WAY SLOPE STABILISATION

Finn Valley was tasked by Midcoast Council with restoring a flood-damaged culvert and stabilizing a slope on
Thunderbolts Way. The site of concern was a sharp hairpin bend on the two-lane road with sealed shoulders,
where a failure occurred in the fill batter, leading to slumping and rotational failure around the pipe outlet.
Scouring at the pipe outlet exacerbated the issue, causing the batter to collapse. Additionally, a broken
concrete stormwater pipe and headwall had collapsed into the slide zone.

The project entailed:

  • Excavation and embankment reconstruction to TfNSW specifications.
  • Construction of a 4-meter-high gabion wall spanning 10 meters.
  • Reconstruction of the broken concrete stormwater pipe and headwall.
  • Pouring a concrete spillway with rock pitching.
  • Repairing the existing guardrail.

Through meticulous execution, Finn Valley stabilized the slope, halting further erosion and ensuring the
safety of road users. Additionally, repairs to the guardrail enhanced overall road safety.
