SCONE ROAD GLOUCESTER SLOPE STABILISATION

Finn Valley was contracted by Midcoast Council to repair Scone Road, Cobark, located approximately 15.6km northwest of the Thunderbolts Way intersection, following a slope failure caused by heavy flooding in March 2022, extending approximately 30m. The failure resulted from a combination of rotational and transitional factors, likely due to saturation of the fill formation from ongoing wet weather, with extreme rainfall triggering the embankment failure.

The scope of work comprised permanent and temporary erosion and sediment controls, traffic management, excavation and foundation preparation for a 3m high, 30m long gabion wall, installation of 35m subsoil drainage, excavation and installation of a 20m geofabric-lined table drain with a 200mm gabion rock dispersal layer, repair of the existing road shoulder, and installation of marker posts.

The project was successful, stabilizing the embankment and widening the road, enhancing safety for public road users.
