TFNSW – BAAN BAA  Finn Valley

TFNSW – BAAN BAA

Finn Valley was contracted by Transport for New South Wales for the replacement and extension of multiple culverts along the Kamillaroi Highway, spanning from Baan Baa to Turrawan. The project scope encompassed the provision, transportation, and installation of 36 box culvert crown units and associated link slabs. This entailed excavation to precise design levels, including the removal of unsuitable material as necessary, followed by the placement of a concrete blinding layer.

Additionally, responsibilities included the formation, reinforcement, and casting of footings for culvert base slab extensions and wing wall footings. The project also involved the delivery, positioning, and assembly of box culvert crown units and link slabs, as well as the construction of wing walls and headwalls, encompassing forming, reinforcement, and concrete pouring activities. Furthermore, tasks encompassed excavation and installation of rock scour protection, as well as the excavation and installation of DN450 concrete stormwater pipe extensions and accompanying headwalls. Finally, efforts were dedicated to patch repairing and rectification of structural defects in existing concrete structures, addressing corrosion issues to enhance the longevity of the current culverts.

Finn Valley had regular consultation with TfNSW site management regarding minor design issues to adjust culvert sizes and reduce future obstructions between the existing structures & new structures. Finn Valley proposed a methodology for the structural repairs and defect rectification of the existing culvert units due to corrosion & deterioration of the structures due to age. The repairs will significantly extend the lifespan of the existing culverts and reduce/offset future replacement works

TfNSW is upgrading & widening the existing Kamilaroi Highway from Baan Baa to Turrawan to repair the existing road pavement defects & provide a safer route for drivers. This highway is a primary route for travellers & delivery of materials to businesses, farmers & mines in North Western NSW
