BOWMANS FARM ROAD SLOPE STABILISATION  Finn Valley

BOWMANS FARM ROAD SLOPE STABILISATION

Finn Valley was contracted by Midcoast Council for slope stabilisation on Bowman Farm Road, Barrington NSW, post a severe flooding event in March 2022. The erosion extended 70m along Bowman River, including 25m within the road corridor forming a 2.5 to 3m high scarp, posing a hazard to vehicles

Works included relocating utilities, maintaining the roadway, erosion controls, excavating an anchor trench, using geotextile layers, reconstructing the slope with a rockfill system, pouring 50 cubic meters of no fines concrete, installing fencing, and hydroseeding for revegetation. An underground Telstra cable was relocated temporarily.

Due to the extreme weather event, there was approx. 1m of road shoulder remaining where previously there was 10m. This posed a hazard to both public road users and Finn Valley crew working on site and appropriate traffic control plans were put in pace to minimise any risk to all parties.

The project was completed within three weeks resulting in a stabilized slope and widened road shoulder ensuring the safety of road users by removing any potential hazards.
